About the Artist

Philadelphia-based artist Erin Murray makes paintings and drawings of architectural spaces. In her drawings Murray employs classicizing elements and unusual perspectives to emphasize the embedded information inherent in all human-built structures. The seemingly abandoned empty stages are grounds for viewers' contemplation of the history and value of architecture as well as the human experiences possible within these enclosed structures. Her paintings deal with similar themes but are made more intimate by presenting individual portraits of particular buildings and unique spaces.
