About the Artist
New York based artist Thomas Doyle creates intricate miniature worlds, sculpted in 1:43 scale and smaller, often sealed in pristine glass displays. The works evince a surreal distortion of memory, or, in the artist's words, 'experiences frozen and distorted by a warped and dreamlike lens.' The tension inherent in the works is heightened by the presence of tiny human figures that the viewer must strain to make out. The process of ascertaining the details of these miniature scenes radically alters viewers' experience of time and space - seduced by reverie, one is pulled headfirst into these alternate realities, bringing back memories of peering into dollhouses and shoebox dioramas.
